Help! What can I do about my allergy symptoms? Pollen counts are high and will continue to rise. If you have a brief allergy season allergy with mild to moderate symptoms an antihistamine like Zyrtec or generic substitute (Ceterizine) might help. For some people with moderate to severe symptoms it might be best to take an antihistamine everyday during the season. Antihistamines do a better job preventing symptoms and poor at reversing allergy symptoms once they appear.
Adding a nasal steroid like Flonase - generic fluticasone cheaper - 1 spray once or twice daily may also reduce symptoms. Using Simply Saline multiple times a day will reduce nasal inflammation, cough and post nasal drip. Instructions on how to use Simply Saline https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujHZHZIOiD8
Keep in mind allergy medication only offers temporary relief of symptoms and does not treat the cause of the problem. For a more permanent solution - sublingual allergy drops are available and are a safe alternative to the potentially dangerous allergy shots
